Important
RSA dates:
Poppy
Day
For 85
years Poppy Day has been an annual event usually held on the Friday
before ANZAC Day.
It
is the most important fundraising appeal of the year for the RSA,
providing funds specifically for the assistance of returned servicemen
and women and their dependants in need.
On
Poppy Day RSA volunteers throughout New Zealand offer red poppy
buttonholes in exchange for donations to the RSA Welfare Fund.
ANZAC
Day
ANZAC
Day (25 April) is observed in New Zealand as a day of commemoration for
those who died in the service of their country and to honour returned
servicemen and women.
25
April is the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New
Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. On the first anniversary of
that landing services were held throughout the country in remembrance
of the 2,721 New Zealand soldiers who died during the eight-month
Gallipoli Campaign. Since 1916 ANZAC Day has evolved to the observance
we know today.
Armistice
Day
Armistice
Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the
First World War and commemorates the sacrifice of those who died
serving New Zealand in this and all wars and armed conflicts.
At the
going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will
remember them.
Lest we
forget
